British Columbia has its own sea serpent. Its name is Caddy, short for Cadborosaurus, and it took hold after sightings in 1933. By February 1934 The New York Times was reporting a sea serpent off Vancouver Island. In 1937 a carcass turned up at the Naden Harbour whaling station, and in 1995 Bousfield and LeBlond named the animal Cadborosaurus willsi, with that carcass as its type specimen. They also read Capt. William Hagelund's 1968 account from Pirates Cove as a juvenile, though they warned of memory slippage.
