Cadborosaurus

Term 13 stories, 1930 to 1983

British Columbia has its own sea serpent. Cadborosaurus, known as Caddy, filled the papers in 1933 and 1934, and in February 1934 The New York Times reported a serpent off Vancouver Island. Beached carcasses followed, from Henry Island in 1934 to Naden Harbour in 1937. In 1995 Bousfield and LeBlond formally named the species Cadborosaurus willsi, making the Naden Harbour carcass its type specimen, though the journal's co-editors objected. They later read Capt. William Hagelund's 1968 sighting at Pirates Cove as a juvenile. Distant cases like Colossal Claude are sometimes linked to it.
