Darren Naish appears across the archive as the zoologist who looks hard at the pictures. Palaeontologist, palaeozoologist, writer of Tetrapod Zoology and Hunting Monsters. In the Montauk Monster carcass of 2008 he saw a raccoon, its beak the naked premaxillary bones. On the 1994 Lake Dakataua Migo footage he studied the frames one by one and found a saltwater crocodile. The Hook Island photographs of 1964 he judged a hoax, though a pretty good one. His readings come after the witnesses have spoken, and they do not always close the debate.
