1. Entertainment
Umbralog is an entertainment website. It collects stories of unidentified aerial phenomena and retells them the way the witnesses described them. The stories are presented for enjoyment and curiosity, not as verified fact, scientific findings, news reporting, or advice of any kind. Nothing on the site should be relied on for any decision.
2. AI-generated content
Much of what you see and hear here is generated by artificial intelligence and then reviewed by a person:
- Images. Some images are AI recreations of the reported events, including photorealistic ones. They are artistic interpretations of witness accounts, not photographs of the events. Where a real photograph exists it is labelled "Real photo"; anything else marked "AI recreation" or "AI illustration" was generated.
- Text. Summaries and story text are compiled by AI from the listed sources and written in a dramatic, documentary style. Names, dates, places and quotations come from those sources, but the wording, pacing and emphasis are ours.
- Narration, 3D models and visualizations are dramatizations and approximations built from the written descriptions. Where a position, size or timing was not reported, the site says it was inferred or guessed.
3. Witness accounts and sources
The site gives witnesses the benefit of the doubt: their account comes first, and sceptical explanations or official conclusions follow. A reputability score summarises how well documented a story is; it is a simple, published heuristic, not a judgement of anyone's honesty. Every story lists the sources it was compiled from. If something is wrong, use the "Comment or correction" form on the story page.
4. Your content
If you sign in and post a comment or send a correction, you keep ownership of what you write and give Umbralog a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to show it on the site. Do not post anything unlawful, abusive, or that you do not have the right to share, and do not post personal information about private individuals. We may remove content or accounts that break these rules.
5. Accounts, free limits and Pro membership
Signing in is free and needs only an email address. Free accounts can use the search and similarity tools with a short wait between one search and the next; the wait is shown on the search page. Umbralog Pro is a paid membership that removes the wait and adds features listed on the pricing page.
- Billing. Pro is billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Prices are shown before you subscribe and can change for future periods with notice on the pricing page.
- Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account page. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for, then the account returns to Free. Nothing you saved is deleted.
- Refunds. If a charge was made in error, contact us within 14 days and we will refund it. Partial periods are not refunded otherwise.
- Fair use. Pro is for one person. Sharing an account, running automated scraping outside the documented API, or creating multiple free accounts to avoid the daily limit may lead to the account being closed. API keys are personal and rate-limited.
- Exports and the API. Story data you export or fetch through the API is for your personal or research use. The stories, text and generated media remain ours and our sources' as described in sections 2 and 6; do not republish them as your own.
- Alerts. Saved-search alerts are emails you turn on yourself and can turn off from your account page at any time.
6. Third-party material
Real photographs, videos and documents are shown with the credit and licence information we found, and videos are embedded from or linked to their original hosts. If you hold rights to material shown here and want it credited differently or removed, contact us through the correction form on the relevant story.
7. No warranty, limitation of liability
The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Umbralog and the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or reliance on anything in it.
8. Cookies and analytics
The site sets two first-party cookies of its own: a session cookie when you sign in, and a small cookie that remembers your answer to the cookie notice. Neither is used for advertising.
Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not set cookies, fingerprint devices or track you across sites; it records the page, the referrer, the browser type and the country, and shows us which stories people read. If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland the counter loads only after you accept it in the notice; elsewhere it loads unless you decline. You can change your answer at any time with the "Cookies" link in the footer.
Under the same choice we keep a count of our own: the pages opened, the links clicked and the searches made, with the page on another site that linked you here and any tag on that link. It is tied to no account, recognises a browser for one day only, and is deleted after 90 days.
Videos embedded from other hosts and the payment provider set their own cookies under their own policies when you use those features.
9. Changes
These terms may change as the site grows. The date at the top tells you when they were last updated. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
