Karl Shuker turns up again and again in the archive's sea monsters and mystery cats. He named Trunko in 1996, the Margate globster, and in 2010 helped find a lost photograph of the carcass. He corresponded with Burnham over Gambo, a case he credits with launching his career as a full-time cryptozoologist. He also named the Kellas cat, predicting in 1989 that it would prove a domestic and wildcat hybrid. His verdicts often run against the grain. On the Buran sighting, he argued for Steller's sea cow over female narwhals.
