A London newspaper with a long reach into the strange. In 1905 its reporter Bernard Redwood watched a ball of fire hang above a Welsh chapel during the Egryn Lights. December 1933. The paper hired big-game hunter Marmaduke Wetherell to track the Loch Ness monster, then ridiculed him when his footprints proved to come from a hippopotamus. Months later, on 21 April 1934, it published the Surgeon's Photograph, which became the most famous image of Nessie. The Daily Mail also ran the Trunko story in 1924 and, in 2013, the Glasgow A320 near miss.
