A collector of strange reports, Charles Fort carried many early cases into UFO literature. 1919. In The Book of the Damned he reprinted accounts like the lights that shadowed HMS Caroline off Jeju and the USS Supply meteors, grouping them for their unison of movement. He made Bishop Michaud's torpedo-shaped fireball over Burlington a centrepiece. In the 1920s he tracked the pastor behind the Crawfordsville Monster to Michigan and wrote to him. The results appeared in Lo! in 1931, alongside the British phantom airships of 1909.
