Fort

Charles Fort collected the strange. His books carried old newspaper oddities into UFO literature. In 1919 he reprinted Banner's diagram of the 1870 Lady of the Lake circular cloud in The Book of the Damned, struck by a form that never broke apart. The same book placed the 1893 HMS Caroline lights off Quelpart beside the USS Supply report as an example of unison of movement. For the Crawfordsville Monster of 1891, he found the story in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, tracked the pastor Switzer to Michigan, and published the results in Lo! in 1931.
