Borley Rectory

Place 9 stories, 1833 to 1944

Hall Road, Borley, north Essex. Near the Suffolk border stood a red brick Gothic Revival rectory of 23 rooms on nearly 4 acres, with Borley Church across the road. Harry Price spent a year there in 1937 and 1938, in what became known as the most haunted house in England. Its shadow falls across other cases. Ballechin House and its ghost nun still invite comparison. Ash Manor belongs to its era. At the Langenhoe Church haunting, the legend of Arabella Waldegrave, a rector's murdered lover, carries a name that also turns up at Borley.
