Arthur Conan Doyle appears in the archive as a writer drawn to the uncanny cases of earlier times. On the moving coffins of the Chase Vault in Barbados, he suggested animal magnetism or psychic force, possibly linked to Dorcas Chase. He also wrote about the Hydesville rappings, recording that seventy or eighty people came that night. 1926. Lord Combermere sent him the Combermere Abbey ghost photograph. Conan Doyle used it as a lantern slide in his lecture on spirit photography and wrote it up in Psychic Science. He doubted the date, believing it was taken on a Sunday afternoon shortly after the death.
