1919. Charles Fort published The Book of the Damned, and a string of strange old reports found a new home. He reprinted Banner's diagram of the 1870 Lady of the Lake circular cloud, struck by its stable, complex form. He retold the revolving wheels of light seen from HMS Vulture in 1879, wondering if a vast luminous wheel lay under the sea. Bishop Michaud's torpedo-shaped fireball over Burlington, Vermont, became a centrepiece. Through its pages, cases like the USS Supply meteors of 1904 entered the canon of UFO literature.
