A cryptozoologist and writer, John Kirk turns up in this archive weighing the evidence of lake monsters. He belonged to the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club. In 2005 he joined Benjamin Radford and Joe Nickell at Okanagan Lake for the National Geographic Channel series Is It Real?, revisiting Art Folden's 1968 Ogopogo film. Their survey placed the object much closer to shore. On the 1962 Manipogo photograph from Lake Manitoba, he argued that anything smaller than the largest reported sizes could be a sturgeon. His 2006 Cryptomundo article detailed the 1978 Kawaji family sighting of Issie at Lake Ikeda.
