chupacabra

Term 11 stories, 1975 to 2010

March 1995. Eight sheep were found with puncture wounds in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, and the chupacabra was born. Madelyne Tolentino gave the creature the description that would define it, and the older Vampire of Moca is widely treated as its forerunner. The name later travelled. In Nicaragua it attached to the Malpaisillo carcass of 2000. In Texas it began with the Elmendorf Beast of 2004 and continued through the DeWitt County dashcam footage of 2008. Sceptics such as biologist Barry O'Connor argued in 2010 that US reports were coyotes with severe mange.
