Saturday, 18 December 2010. Around 3 p.m. An animal walked out of the woods and onto Mark Cothren's front yard in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky. It was about the size of a house cat. Grayish, wrinkly skin. No fur. Large ears, whiskers, a long tail. Cothren did not recognise it, and he feared what it was. He got his rifle and shot it. Then he kept the body. Five days later a Louisville television station broke the story, and it travelled the world as a possible chupacabra. In January a state wildlife biologist gave an answer. Why the animal had no hair was never explained.

Context

Lebanon Junction is a town in Kentucky. Mount Carmel Church Road lies near the line between Bullitt and Nelson counties. The news called the place Nelson County. A Bullitt County cemetery history puts the road in Bullitt. The question remains open. What matters is the season. It was December, and winter had come.
