The Lares Chicken Attack, Seburuquillo

Sector Seburuquillo is a community of about 80 families in Pueblo barrio, Lares, Puerto Rico. After Hurricane María, it waited nearly three weeks to receive aid. Puerto Rico is also home ground for the chupacabra. The legend took shape in the 1995 wave of reports in Canóvanas and Orocovis, which included Madelyne Tolentino's sighting.

It was the early hours of Sunday, 13 October 2019. A few hours before, it had rained. The family heard their hens clucking. They went out and shone a flashlight. They saw nothing.

Then they found the birds. Nine hens lay dead, with holes in their bodies. Others were injured and died later. In all, 12 birds were lost. According to the report, nothing like this had ever happened to them before.

The Mundo Ovnis team investigated on site. Because the ground was wet, several footprints had been left in it, and the team cast them in plaster. They also found hair. Some lay on the ground. Some was tangled in parts of the coop wire.

On 17 October 2019, the channel uploaded its video report to YouTube: "Reportaje: Ataque a gallinas en el sector Seburuquillo de Lares." It shows the aftermath. The dead and injured birds. The coop. The evidence collected. No animal appears on camera. The description asks viewers for discretion with some of the images.

No police complaint has come to light. No veterinary necropsy. No finding from any government agency. The only investigation on record is the one Mundo Ovnis carried out on site. No measurements of the casts and no analysis of the hair have been published. A written report linked from the video sits on a Facebook post whose contents remain out of reach.

No one has accused the family or the channel of a hoax. Later commentary was cooler. The Strange & Twisted chupacabra timeline called the footage "lacking verifiable evidence" and noted that it "circulated widely."

Sceptics point to the wider record. Reports of blood-drained livestock have never been confirmed by necropsy. A veterinarian who examined about 300 reported victims found they had not been bled dry. Authorities in Puerto Rico have long blamed stray dogs and exotic animals, and carcasses tested in mainland North America have turned out to be canids with mange.

Benjamin Radford traced the 1995 description of the creature to the film Species. The details in Lares could fit an ordinary predator such as feral dogs, cats or mongooses. Settling it would take the casts and the hair. Those results have never been published.

The case earned a single sentence in Wikipedia's Chupacabra article: "In 2019 a video recorded by Mundo Ovni showed the results of a supposed attack on chickens in the Seburuquillo sector of Lares, Puerto Rico." That line has travelled to mirrors and fan wikis. Similar nights followed elsewhere on the island. Hatillo, 2022. Sixteen animals dead in one night. Carolina, 2025. Twenty laying hens with open wounds. In Lares, the attacker was never seen.
