Podmore

Person 6 stories, 1839 to 1929

Frank Podmore worked for the Society for Psychical Research. April 1883. He arrived at Joe White's house in Worksop, one of the earliest poltergeist cases the society examined, and wrote that the movements seemed to preclude throwing by hand. In 1896 he changed his mind and blamed fraud. His paper "Poltergeists" counted Durweston among eleven cases and named trickery by a child as the likely answer. In 1899 Alfred Russel Wallace challenged him over the Bishopwearmouth case. In 1908 Podmore weighed the Grottendieck stone-fall in Sumatra and suspected memory error, while Andrew Lang pushed back.
