Mothman

Term 10 stories, 1880 to 2017

Point Pleasant, West Virginia. That is where the Mothman sightings began, and the name became a yardstick for other winged figures in the archive. Cryptozoologists compare the Houston Batman of 1953 with it, noting that the Houston report came 13 years before Point Pleasant. The Owlman of Mawnan, seen by the Melling sisters in 1976, is called its Cornish cousin. In West Virginia lore, the Grafton Monster of 1964 sits between the Flatwoods Monster of 1952 and Mothman.
