Houston Heights. June 18, 1953. About 2:30 in the morning. Three neighbours sat on a porch on East Third Street, escaping the humid summer heat. Then a huge shadow crossed the lawn. It seemed to bounce upward into an old pecan tree. There, swaying on a branch, stood the figure of a man with wings like a bat. Tight-fitting grey or black clothes. A halo of light around him. For about thirty seconds it stayed. Then the light faded slowly, and the figure was gone. A loud swoosh followed over the rooftops. A white flash rose and took off like a jet. The Houston Batman had come and gone, and no explanation has ever settled it.
