A cryptozoologist and author, Ken Gerhard keeps returning to the winged things of Texas. He wrote Big Bird! Modern Sightings of Flying Monsters in 2007, preserving witness words from the 1976 Rio Grande Valley flap. He revisited the Houston Batman of 1953 in Big Bird!, in Monsters of Texas with Nick Redfern, and in Encounters with Flying Humanoids. He dates the Houston Chronicle article to 19 June 1953. He also read Shuker's account of the Harlingen ambulance pterodactyl to Houston witness Richard Guzman. And of Texas John Huffer's Lake Shelbyville film, he says he owns an 18 second version.
