June 1966. Night in the mountains of northern Chile. Two health service workers, Manuel Muñoz Carvajal and Luis Astudillo Marín, were driving back from Incahuasi to their camp at Los Morros. A fireball crossed in front of their van and went out. A kilometre further on, another light appeared. It was huge and loud, shaped like a walnut, with six protuberances around its rim. Beneath it hung a kind of cabin. Inside, three helmeted heads sat motionless. Five colleagues at the camp watched it climb away at high speed. Seven months later, under hypnosis, one of the men would describe small green beings walking around the craft.

Context

June 1966. A team of about twenty workers from Chile's National Health Service was camped at Los Morros, in the commune of La Higuera, Coquimbo Region. Patrick Gross places the camp about 160 km from La Serena, at about 1,500 m. That night a medical emergency sent two of them down to the village of Incahuasi. Manuel Muñoz Carvajal drove, with Luis Astudillo Marín beside him.
