Victoria Daily Times

Organisation 4 stories, 1933 to 1972

A Victoria newspaper that put two of British Columbia's strangest water creatures into print. On 5 October 1933 it ran the story of the sightings off Victoria. Editor Archie H. Wills took up the name Cadborosaurus from a reader's letter and popularized it on October 11. Coverage spread across the continent. Decades later, in August 1972, the paper reported the Thetis Lake Monster, describing a silvery, scaled creature with sharp claws and six razor-sharp points on its head. It compared the creature to Creature from the Black Lagoon and commissioned an artist's sketch from the young witnesses' descriptions.
