January 2002. Gary Heseltine, a retired Detective Constable, launched a catalogue of UFO sightings made by police officers on duty. The PRUFOS Police Database draws on officers themselves, newspaper archives and MoD releases. For some cases it is the only surviving record, as with the 1969 Werrington sighting by 6 officers, filed as a nocturnal light. It classed the 1967 Bacup police station cigar as CE1/EM, a close encounter with electromagnetic effects. It also lists a second Dumfries case, dated 30/08/80, that may be the same five-officer event from 1979.
