A forestry foreman for the Livingston Development Corporation. Robert Taylor was 61, a Second World War veteran, and his job was to keep cattle and sheep out of the young plantations on Dechmont Law, a volcanic hill beside the M8 motorway. 9 November 1979. On that hill, near Livingston, he became the sole witness to a close encounter, and said he had been dragged along the ground by a UFO. His case rose to become one of Scotland's best known. Later stories, from the Dumfries five-officer police sighting to the Armadale "Toblerone" UFO of 1994, still look back to it.
