Nessie is the name the archive gives the Loch Ness Monster, and it has become a template for lake monsters worldwide. Its most famous image is the Surgeon's Photograph. The Daily Mail published it in April 1934. Small head, long neck, ripples on a quiet loch. In 1999 Martin and Boyd laid out the case in Nessie: The Surgeon's Photograph Exposed. Japan's Kussie of Lake Kussharo (1973) and Issie of Lake Ikeda (1978) were both named after it. So was South Bay Bessie of Lake Erie, in 1990.
