Context
Crescent Lake sits beside Robert's Arm, a town on Green Bay in north-central Newfoundland. Early in the 20th century, one of the community's first residents, remembered as Grandmother Anthony, was frightened by a giant lake serpent while picking berries. In the 1950s, woodsmen saw what looked like an upturned boat, then "something large and slick which slipped below the waters." In the spring of 1990, someone watched "a slim, black shape rise five feet from a patch of churning water before sinking out of sight." Then came 1991.
