A writer on cryptozoology, and author of Bunyips & Bigfoots. Malcolm Smith turns up in the archive's Australian cases, usually after the sighting, weighing what witnesses saw. In his book he lists "waa wee" among the regional names for the bunyip, linking him to the Midgeon Lagoon story of 1872. In 1992 he suggested that Kevin Cameron's thylacine photographed at Yoongarillup might be a dog, perhaps with painted-on stripes. Then 2014. Summarising the Wonthaggi Monster reports of 1955, he backed Crosbie Morrison's mix of ordinary animals and declared the case closed.
