A Society for Psychical Research investigator with a taste for natural explanations. At Garden Reach in Cheltenham, G. W. Lambert blamed underground water, subsidence and misread noises, and tied the haunting's end to the nearby Dowdeswell Reservoir. He took a softer line on the Versailles time-slip of 1901. Something paranormal probably happened, he thought, and he placed the scenes around 1774. In 1951 he and K. Gay examined the Dieppe Raid battle replay at Puys and found the women well balanced. His underground water theory later failed at Sauchie. A surveyor found no ground movement.
