Edgehill

Place 3 stories, 1686 to 1951

Edgehill. In this archive it is the classic English phantom battle, the name writers reach for when another ghostly army appears. The 1745 Souther Fell spectral army is called its companion. The visions at Crossford Boat on the River Clyde in 1686 are said to stand beside the phantom armies of Britain, from Edgehill to Souther Fell. Further afield, Gaddis placed the 1951 Dieppe Raid battle replay at Puys alongside the phantom battles of Edgehill and Cedar Creek. He saw them all as soundtracks caught in timelessness.
