A periodical that kept strange English stories alive in print. In 1747 it published an anonymous account of the Souther Fell spectral army. Its author went to question the spectators in person, and they held to their story. For the Beaminster apparitions of 1728 it printed its own version, later reprinted by John H. Ingram in 1897: twelve boys, a sound like a brass pan, a coffin on a bench. Then, in 1872, Mary Ricketts' narrative of the Hinton Ampner haunting appeared in its pages as A Hampshire Ghost Story.
