A cathedral city in Hampshire, England, Winchester sits at the edge of two very different cases. In the Hinton Ampner haunting, the troubled manor stood about 8 miles east of the city. In late 1771 Mary Ricketts left it for Wolvesey Palace in Winchester. Two centuries later, Sunday 14 November 1976. On the eastern edge of the city, Joyce Bowles and her neighbour Ted Pratt saw two lights. Then the steering locked and her Mini seemed to float sideways onto the verge. The Winchester close encounter is still debated.
