A national newspaper that keeps turning up when a strange story breaks out of the local press. In 1953, after the RAF West Malling Vampire sighting, the Daily Express led with the headline "Mystery at 60,000 feet." The Air Ministry later suggested a meteorological balloon. April 1983. The South Molton sheep killings went national, and the paper offered a reward for footage of the Beast of Exmoor. Then, on 21 February 2017, it ran the tale of Soviet soldiers turned to stone in Siberia as a declassified CIA report. Other outlets around the world followed.
