Urquhart Castle

Place 5 stories, 1936 to 1977

On the shore of Loch Ness stands Urquhart Castle. Again and again, it frames the monster stories. In 1951 Lachlan Stuart lived at Whitefield, a croft nearly opposite the castle, where he took his three humps photograph. 29 July 1955. Bank manager Peter MacNab stopped his car on the road just above the castle, ready to photograph it, until a movement in the calm water drew his eye. Then, on 21 May 1977, Doc Shiels stood at the foot of Urquhart Castle by Strone Point near Drumnadrochit and took the pictures later called the Loch Ness Muppet.
