Magonia began as a land in the clouds. In 815, Agobard of Lyon recorded the belief that ships sailed from that region to carry off crops beaten down by hail and storm. Centuries later, Jacques Vallée borrowed the name. His catalogue Passport to Magonia appeared in 1969, and its entry number one was the metallic flying creature of Copiapó, recast as an aerial construction. The book also listed the Cennina landing of 1954. In the Rowley Regis case of 1979, some readers cited it to see fairies in the winged beings.
