A New York newspaper that turns up again and again in the archive's cases, sometimes as a megaphone and once as a closed door. In 1971 it carried the story of Fr Gregory Brusey, the Fort Augustus monk who described a warm sun and smooth water on the morning he saw something in Loch Ness. 1 November 1973. Its headline told readers a yeti-like monster had frightened a staid Illinois town, and letters reached Murphysboro from around the world. A year later, John Lennon tried to report a UFO over Manhattan. The Times reporter hung up.
