Secret files rarely stay secret forever. In both Ireland and Britain, the Freedom of Information Act opened official UFO records to the public. In 2007 the Irish Defence Forces released their UFO file to The Irish Times under the Act. Journalist Alison Healy reported its contents on 20 September 2007, bringing to light the Boherlahan sighting in Co Tipperary and the Falcarragh bog memo from Donegal. 14 May 2008. The National Archives opened the first batch of MoD UFO files, eight files covering 1978 to 1987, after a request from UFO researchers. Among them was a saucer-shaped UFO hovering over Waterloo Bridge.
