May 1984. A turf bog near Falcarragh, County Donegal. An off-duty garda and a farmer were cutting turf when they heard it first. A gushing sound. The garda looked up. A grey object was travelling at speed over his head. It was shaped like a household iron, with fins at the back. He told the Irish Defence Forces what he saw, but only after being promised his name would stay secret. The classified memo sat in a military UFO file for more than two decades. Its story finally surfaced in The Irish Times in 2007.
