Dale Spaur

Person 4 stories, 1966

A Portage County deputy, Dale Spaur sits at the centre of the best-known Ohio police sighting of 1966. Sunday, 17 April 1966. About 5:00 a.m. Spaur and Wilbur "Barney" Neff stopped on State Route 224 to check what looked like an abandoned car. Behind them, something rose from the woods and kept getting brighter. The two deputies chased the object about 86 miles into Pennsylvania. Their pursuit became a reference point for later cases that year, from the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike chase in Virginia to the Greenville, Ohio sighting in October.
