Three different men named Stevens turn up in the archive, each at the centre of a strange case. In 1878 Dr. E. Winchester Stevens, a Spiritualist physician from Wisconsin, was called to Watseka. He guided Lurancy Vennum toward the spirit of Mary Roff, then published his account that same year. In 1901 I. W. Stevens of Cedar, Colorado, told of a wild man near the lower Grand Canyon. It beat two cougar cubs to death with a club. Then, in Runcorn in 1952, Rev. W. H. Stevens, a Methodist minister, investigated a poltergeist. He was struck on the head with a dictionary.
