Ohio. Portage County gave its name to one of the most famous police UFO reports of 1966. Sunday, 17 April. About 5:00 a.m. Deputy Dale Spaur and Wilbur "Barney" Neff stopped on State Route 224 to check what looked like an abandoned car. Behind them, something rose from the woods and kept getting brighter. The deputies chased the object about 86 miles into Pennsylvania. Later stories from that restless year, from the Greenville safety director's light to the Patchogue "Giant Hot Dog" on Long Island, looked back on the Portage County chase as the best-known Ohio police sighting of the wave.
