Greenville, Ohio. 2:10 a.m., Friday, 7 October 1966. From the house on the corner of Parkway Drive and Russ Road, Mrs. Thomas Hanes saw something in the southeast sky. Something white. Something circular. She woke her husband, the city safety director. They watched it for about ten minutes. Then they called the police. Two officers arrived and verified the sighting. For nearly an hour, four people watched a light that "flickered other colors and changed its form sometimes." The local paper reported that Project Bluebook would investigate. The Air Force's conclusion has never been traced.

Context

October 1966. The United States was deep in a very busy UFO wave. Back in April, Portage County deputies Dale Spaur and Wilbur Neff had chased an object about 86 miles into Pennsylvania, the best-known Ohio police sighting of the year. Within days of the Greenville report, Le Monde would announce that physicist Edward Condon of the University of Colorado had been named to lead an Air Force-funded UFO study. It became the Condon Committee.
