Wednesday, 25 May 1955. About 3:30 a.m. Robert Hunnicutt, a short-order chef, was driving home toward Loveland, Ohio, along the Madeira-Loveland Pike near Branch Hill. His headlights fell on what he took for three men kneeling in the grass. They were not men. Three grey figures, about three and a half feet tall, stood in a rough triangle. The one in front held a rod or a chain above its head. Blue-white sparks jumped from hand to hand. He stopped. He walked toward them. They turned and stared back, without a sound. Then he drove straight to the police chief's house.

Context

Loveland, Ohio, would later lend its name to a famous cryptid. The case at the root of that legend is quieter, and stranger. Its best record comes from Ted Bloecher, who investigated in 1956. His findings appeared in Close Encounter at Kelly and Others of 1955, written with Isabel Davis and published by the Center for UFO Studies in 1978.
