Organisation 4 stories, 1941 to 1988

The Soviet Union's leading scientific body twice brushed against the archive's stranger cases. January 1958. At the initiative of Boris Porshnev, its Presidium created a commission to study the question of the snowman, chaired by the geologist Sergei Obruchev. Reports fed it, including Dr. Vazgen Karapetyan's account of the captured wild man of Dagestan, which he delivered to the Presidium in person. The 1958 Pamir expedition failed, and the commission was disbanded. In 1963 the Academy's journal Priroda carried the Buran whalers' sighting off Cape Navarin, asking whether the Steller sea cow was extinct.
