A news wire. Its reports carried strange stories far beyond where they began. On 5 October 1954, Reuters filed from Nairobi on the East African saucer wave, summing up glowing, colour-changing objects seen over Tanganyika, Kenya and Uganda. Papers from Paris to Kingston, Jamaica, ran versions traced to that one dispatch. In 1995, correspondent Ellis Mnyandu covered the Howick monster and Bob Teeney's photo reward. On 21 October 1998, climber Craig Calonica told Reuters he had seen something on Everest that was not human. That original report survives only in later quotes.
