Place 4 stories, 1951 to 1995

The capital of Tanganyika, on the Indian Ocean coast. Its name surfaces again and again in East African reports. On 28 February 1951 a Foreign Service Dispatch from Dar es Salaam carried the Mount Kilimanjaro sighting from an East African Airways Lodestar to the State Department. In 1954, according to Reuters, the first reports of the East African saucer wave came from here, before sightings spread to Mombasa, Kampala and Nairobi. In 1995 the Popobawa panic crossed from Zanzibar to the city. In 2007 the BBC reported men there sleeping in groups outside their homes.
