Police Reporting UFO Sightings. That is the full name of PRUFOS, a database of police UFO reports compiled by Detective Constable Gary Heseltine of the British Transport Police. It begins with Haworth in 1901, an on-duty sighting by two officers, and has since grown to about 550 cases and about 1,100 officers. It counts 17 officers at Windermere in 1977, nine of them named. It classes PC Colin Perks's 1966 Wilmslow sighting as a close encounter of the second kind, because of the claimed trace. At Acton in 1972, it adds one detail. The light's brightness was increasing.
