Sighting record / 1977
Just after midnight on Sunday 28 August 1977, police officers across the Lake District looked up. Two very bright horizontal lights were moving in from the direction of Langdale Pike. For the next 20 minutes, officers at Keswick, Bowness and Skelwith Bridge watched a very large craft pass low over the fells. Some called it triangular. Others said diamond, kite, or hang glider. A civilian, John Platt, saw a giant catamaran with twin hulls. Depending on the source, ten or 17 officers saw it. Then it went out over Morecambe Bay. Gary Heseltine's police database ranks it among the three biggest multi-officer cases in Britain.
