A secret Ministry of Defence study of unidentified aerial phenomena in the UK. Project Condign began in 1996. DI55, a branch of the Defence Intelligence Staff, was reviewing how it handled such reports and turned to its own files: about 10,000 sightings. Released in 2006, the study attributed most black triangle reports to buoyant plasmas, a phenomenon it likened to ball lightning. That finding later surfaced around the Nottingham low-flying triangles of 1991, though not as a verdict on that night. Press coverage of the Dudley Dorito in 2007 reached for it too.
