A London newspaper that kept turning up when the uncanny made headlines. 17 November 1872. It found Peckham in commotion over the Peckham Ghost, a gleaming white figure that leapt fences, and named it Spring-heeled Jack, returned to terrify a new generation. In 1904 it covered the Everton scare in Liverpool, describing a ghost that escaped on huge springs and outran the police. Mike Dash later cited that issue as the last newspaper report of a Spring-heeled Jack appearance. In 1974 Maurice Goodenough spoke to the paper about the Blue Bell Hill Phantom Hitchhiker, still shaking.
