Nahant

Place 3 stories, 1817 to 1833

A beach on the coast north of Boston, Massachusetts. In the summer of 1819, New England's sea serpent came back here. Samuel Cabot, a Nahant summer resident, watched it from about 150 yards with two or three hundred people on the beach around him. He saw a head like a horse's and a long line of bunches, and judged it not less than eighty feet long. Marshal James Prince wrote to the Linnaean Society about the sighting. Nahant also appears in the Gloucester sea serpent reports of 1817 to 1819, and in the story of the British officers at St. Margaret's Bay in 1833.
