miracle of the sun

Term 6 stories, 1950 to 1998

Fátima, 13 October 1917. That is the classic miracle of the sun, and later Marian apparitions keep returning to it. In Lubbock in 1988, one witness said the sun spun around in circles, much as it had at Fátima. At Donglü in Hebei in 1995, Gianni Criveller and others drew the same comparison. Nancy Fowler's monthly messages at Conyers, Georgia, deliberately echoed that date. Not every crowd saw it. At Necedah in 1950, no reporter did. Proposed explanations for solar miracles include afterimages and dazzle from staring at the sun, haze dimming the disc, and the expectation of a crowd.
